"I have been awed by light since I was very young. Some of
my most vivid memories from my youth are of moments of
light. Like a sunrise sparkling on the dew drops in a berry field
or late afternoon sun shafting through a dusty barn. These images are burned into my memory. So it is only natural that
my work is almost always defined by some moment of
beautiful light."
Kelly James was born and raised in the agricultural belt of Oregon's mid Willamette Valley. At the age of 13 he bought
his first camera and at 15 landed his first photography job
at the newspaper in his home town. Kelly worked his way
through college as a photojournalist. Upon graduating
from college he continued his education by working as a freelance assistant photographer to some of Portland's top commercial photographers.
Kelly James has operated a commercial photo studio for
more than fifteen years. Specialties include people and
product photography, both in studio and on location. Client
base includes academia, creative agencies, corporations, government organizations, and healthcare.
